Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) while living outside Canada?

Yes. Ontario International School allows eligible students to complete Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) courses entirely online from anywhere in the world. You can study at your own pace while receiving academic support from our team.

Will universities recognize my OSSD?

Yes. The Ontario Secondary School Diploma is recognized by universities and colleges across Canada and by many institutions internationally. Admission requirements vary by institution and program, so our Academic Advising Team helps students plan the appropriate courses.

Is the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) recognized in my country?

Yes. The OSSD is one of the most widely recognized high school diplomas in the world. OSSD graduates are eligible for direct admission into top-tier universities in the USA, UK, Australia, Europe, and Asia, often without requiring additional foundation years. It is considered equivalent to the UK A-Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB). We recommend a free assessment so we can show you exactly how it aligns with your local system.

How long does it take to earn an OSSD?

The timeline depends on your previous education, transferred credits, and the number of courses you need to complete. After reviewing your transcripts, we’ll create a personalized graduation plan.

Can I take OIS courses if I am already enrolled in a local school?

Yes. Many of our students take individual “Reach Ahead” or prerequisite courses with us while attending their local school to improve their GPA or add a missing university requirement.

How do you verify my previous school credits?

We use a process called Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) to formally evaluate your home-country transcripts. Through this evaluation, we grant equivalent Ontario credits toward your diploma so you don’t have to repeat subjects you’ve already mastered. We offer this as a Free Credit Assessment: simply provide your current transcripts, and our guidance team will build a custom Roadmap showing you exactly which courses you have left to graduate.

How are exams and assessments handled online?

All coursework is completed through our secure student portal. For final exams, we utilize secure online proctoring software to ensure academic integrity, allowing you to complete your assessments safely from home while maintaining the prestige of your diploma.

How do I get started?

Simply submit your transcripts for a free assessment. We’ll review your academic record, recommend the appropriate courses, and help you create a personalized pathway toward earning your Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
