Course Description

This course introduces the mathematical concept of functions by extending students’ understanding of linear and quadratic relations. Students investigate polynomial, rational, exponential, and trigonometric functions, and explore their properties, representations, and applications.

The course emphasizes problem-solving, algebraic manipulation, graphing, and mathematical reasoning. Students learn to model real-world situations using functions and interpret mathematical results in context.

This course prepares students for Grade 12 mathematics courses, including MHF4U – Advanced Functions, MCV4U – Calculus and Vectors, and MDM4U – Mathematics of Data Management.

Prerequisite: MPM2D – Grade 10 Principles of Mathematics

Assessment & Evaluation

Purpose

The primary purpose of assessment is to improve student learning. Assessment relates directly to the expectations for the course.
